The present study was developed in the municipal district Teofilandia, Bahia, of semiarid climate, with a total population of 21.461 habitants. This paper is based on the analysis and identification of potential areas of moisture and the morphodynamics of the drainage channels in semi-arid regions. The methodological approach comprises: the theoretical discussion of the use of MDT and the use of GIS. Thematic maps were produced such as sinuosity, quotas and humidity to classify existing drainage pattern and to evaluate potential areas of moisture available. From the index of sinuosity and quota levels, rivers and streams were analyzed, showing, the tendency of surface flows in the channels. Using map algebra was possible to separate areas with different levels of humidity in the studied area. The areas of high humidity are identified in general as potential areas for construction of dams, since this is areas more likely to remain for a longer period of time the existing water thus favoring the deployment of these dams. The final map allows us to evaluate and identify areas with the greatest possibility of accumulation of surface >water, allowing to develop action plans to use these areas for various purposes, such as agricultural and construction of dams.Downloads
