In order to observe more closely the semantic-discursive uses of the addressing forms and to contribute to its description, two sub-categories of analysis are proposed: addressing phrases and qualification appendices. To conduct this study, there was a focus on the observation of three Black Press newspapers from São Paulo compared to another newspaper called "O Combate". These proposed subcategories assist in the analyses of the strategies of power and solidarity semantics (Brown e Gilman, 1972 [1960]) employed by editors of these newspapers, and also show the social relations established by the black community in the beginning of the Twentieth Century, period of post-abolition of slavery in Brazil.
