The aim of this paper is to address the concepts of Idealism and Dogmatism as Fichte presents them in his Erste und Zweite Einleitung in die Wissenschaftslehre (1797/8). First, it analyzes the contrast that Fichte builds throughout the text. Then, it explores Fichte’s interpretation of Spinozism as outlined in §10 of the Zweite Einleitung…, in order to show that it leads to a new characterization of Dogmatism. Finally, it concludes that this new characterization of Dogmatism dismantles the polarization between the two philosophical systems, which opens in turn the possibility to rethink Fichte’s strategy against the dogmatic readers.
