Abstract

The theological notion of grace is a fundamental element of the pascalian conception of human nature. According to this philosopher, man is under an unbeatable tendency to cupidity and sin, what is explained by the doctrine of original sin. As this corrupted man doesn´t have enough strength neither free will to leave this condition of misery by himself, the only perspective of salvation is through divine grace. So, grace must not be understood as an usual help, that everyone can use according to his own free will, but as a divine operation which brakes the tendency to sin and imposes another tendency, equally unbeatable, to justice.
