Abstract

This paper aims to stress some reasons why Spinoza was regard-ed as a heretic. We believe that the three main reasons that motivate this interpretation of his thought can be found more explicitly in his Tractatus Theologico-Politucus than in his main philosophical work, Ethics. Moreover, Tractatus Theologico-Politucus reached the simple people more than other works, for it was Spinoza’s aim that it would have the broadest possible reach and had influence on the political and religious scenery of his time. Meanwhile the Ethics remained private in the hands of his friends and closer readers
