In this article, we highlight some aspects of the critical view developed in the novel O esplendor de Portugal concerning Portuguese colonialism in Africa. Among these aspects, we prioritize here the interrelationships between the development of the capitalist system in the world and the establishment and maintenance of the forms of Portuguese colonialism in Angola, characterized above all by violence. In addition, we present some of the ways in which these relationships are constructed in the narrative.
