Abstract

In Marguerite Duras’ artistic trajectory the relation between cinema and literature is not limited to the written text being shown on the screen, it also goes the other way round, from the screen to the text. More than transforming films into books, Duras made literature dialoguing with the cinema. In this article, we aimed at analyzing the way cinematographic language and screenplay permeate literary language and vice-versa in L’Amant de la Chine du Nord (1991), a text that, despite being classified as a novel by its author, is organized from elements belonging to the film paratext.
