The article explores a case of modern criticism through the analysis of barthesian writing and the author’s position in the intellectual field. Barthes’ legitimacy of critique, which is defended by its absence of authority, is tied to a shifting exercise and to the transformation of existing discourses. The study of its itinerary allows for a vision of the transformation of the intellectual field during the decade of the seventies and his admittance into the Collège de France provides a change in the critic’s intervention strategies.
