Abstract

“Sunday Morning” is one of the most important and celebrated poems written by one of the United States’ most prominent modernist poets: Wallace Stevens. Written in 1915 and first published in the author’s debut poetry collection –Harmonium – eight years later, this article presents a new translation to the eight stanzas’ comprising this poem and aims at discussing, via analyses, the processes which have guided this translation endeavor. Being a poet who heavily focuses on potent sound relations, precise imagery, and whose comprehension is notoriously challenging, here we address
the difficulties of translating such poetics while keeping alive its idiosyncrasies and potencies.
