NAVEGANDO PELA MEMÓRIA: OS VAPORES NAS NARRATIVAS DOS RIBEIRINHOS DO SÃO FRANCISCO
Abstract
The main aims of the study are to know and record on video the life stories of old riverside residents of the São Francisco’s inhabitants and understand how environmental and cultural changes are experienced by them. This article presents interviews carried out with nine participants, three women and six men, aged between 63 and 96 years, and different jobs. The interviews were recorded in 2008, in Pirapora, Ponto Chique, São Francisco, Januária, Matias Cardoso, in Minas Gerais, and in Carinhanha, in Bahia. The riverside people remembered the times when old Chico was navigated by steamboats, but which were gradually being deactivated due to the bad navigability conditions of the river. Finally, some considerations on the use of video in research are presented.
