in this article, I offer a key to read Variaciones sobre Rosa Parks (Variations on Rosa Parks), a play of the Spanish playwright Itziar Pascual, winner of the prestigious Valle Inclán Theater Award of 2007. I suggest here that it is possible to recognize in this work a series of concerns, strategies and stylistic resources typical of the aesthetics of the time of the crisis of modernity that contemporary Western societies go through (what is often called “postmodern aesthetics”). Through a general analysis of the work, I will try to point out tendencies such as fragmentation, subjectivity and the rejection of dogmatic views, as well as the use of resources such as gender contamination, intertextuality and repetition.
