El aprendizaje del castellano como lengua extranjera (ELE) carece todavía de una investigación empírica que fundamente de manera coherente y sinergética los enfoques didácticos del siglo XXI. La mayor parte de los estudios giran en torno a los procesos de enseñanza y adquisición del inglés e incluso los documentos programáticos más influyentes son de origen anglosajón y responden a necesidades no compartidas en todas las áreas de aplicación
