Abstract

The objective of this article is to show how young people are represented by programs, in the opened television, as diverse as TV series, soap operas, films, programs of audience, commercials, and TV news broadcasts. These young boys and girls are normally reported and stigmatized as violent, and this is particularly true for the inhabitants of suburban areas. The experience detailed here was developed during workshops with a group of young educators of public and particular schools of São Paulo, Brazil, and with groups of young people of the Associação Barracões Culturais da Cidadania,
a NGO with headquarters in the city of Itapecerica da Serra (SP), with the support of Instituto Pólis (SP).
