This paper aims to analyze the identity process articulated to the band Mercado de Peixe, from Bauru, Sao Paulo state, which was one of the first groups of the musical segment that tried to congregate elements of traditional music, such as the countryside music, with different melody styles from the pop music, like rock, rap and reggae. Through interviews with members of the band and the discography analysis, the group musical identity was discussed with regards to its relations to the pós-caipira movement. The movement provided a discussion about local/global and traditional/modern elements imbrication noticed during its identity process. Thus, this paper intends to reflect about the complexity of popular cultures field and inside the worldwide context, establishing a relation among the transcultural flows in the contemporaneity, the identification of social values, the cultural hybridism as an articulator of references and the “glocal” effects resulting from the cultures and popular music (de)territorialization.Downloads
