Escope and politics

 

The Brazilian Journal of Oceanography covers the entire spectrum of disciplines within the science of oceanography, publishing articles dealing with the biological oceanography, physical oceanography, marine chemistry, sedimentology and geology, from coastal and estuarine waters out to the open sea. Emphasis is placed on inter-disciplinary process-oriented contributions. BJO also publishes issues dedicated to results of scientific meetings and of large inter-disciplinary studies or topical issues on specific subjects.

The audience is composed by physical, chemical and biological oceanographers, marine sedimentologists, geologists and geochemists, marine biologists and ecologists.

Papers sent to BJO must present results from original research and be written in english.

The manuscript should be sent to the editor who verifies its property in relation to the scope of the periodical. Manuscripts are critically evaluated by two reviewers. The Editor decides on acceptance or rejection. Acceptable manuscripts are usually returned to the author for consideration of comments and criticism.

The BJO publishes articles in three formats, as follows, but review articles are occasionally accepted.
a) Original article: up to 30 pages, figures and tables included;
b) Note: up to 07 pages, figures and tables included;
c) Review article: up to 50 pages,figures and tables included

Important: Authors must submit six (06) names of potential reviewers for the manuscript, among the experts of recognized competence in the area.

There is no charge for articles submission and evaluation.

The desirable style of organization of a manuscript is as follows:

Title - Must be brief and indicative of the objective of the paper.

Author(s) - Full name(s) of the author(s) should be provided.

Affiliation(s) - The author(s) affiliation(s) and address for correspondence should be given.

Running title - A brief running title should be provided, not exceeding 50 characters, including spaces.

.Abstract - The Article and Review papers should include a brief abstract, not exceeding - 200 words.

Resumo - In Portuguese, located below the Abstract, without paragraphs, should not exceed - 200 words.

Descriptors - A maximum of eight descriptive descriptors should be listed below the "Resumo".

References-

The references must follow Norma ABNT/ NBR 6023The reference list should be in alphabetical order according to the family name of the first author. A perfect correspondence should exist between citations in the text and the list provided in the Reference section. - References should - be complete, including the family names of the authors cited, year of publication, complete title of the article, standard abbreviation of the journal title, volume, issue and page numbers (beginning and ending). Journal title should be abbreviated according to the World List of Scientific Periodicals.

Note: BJO does not accept bibliographic references of unpublished papers, theses, dissertations, abstracts and reports.
