This article sheds light on the presence of the first specific operetta company in Recife, Bouffes Parisienses, in 1867, which shocked the Pernambuco public with the characteristics of a new musical comic theater genre. In addition to the controversies raised, including the misuse of public subsidies, the team motivated the growing popular taste of the Recife audience for operettas until its consecration. The impact of this situation is traced from news, reviews, and newspaper advertisements in dialogue with articles and books focused on the history of Brazilian theater.
