Abstract

This papcr analyses the administration of local public health services of S. Paulo, and gives concepts of public health problem, health and standard of living. Leveis of State responsability in public health programs were defined. Data on 1962 internal revenue was presented, as well as data related to water supplies anel sewage treatment facilities, death rates(all causes and specific), life expectancy concerning the period 1900-1962.Health problems related to public administration, inadequary of statistical data, lack of research, of planning and coordination, role of politics and the motherly attitude of public agencies were also studied. Policies for the reorganization of S. Paulo local public health agencies were set.
