Abstract

Objective: Evaluate the effects of immersion in ice for 30 seconds in grip strength (GS) in adults. Method: We performed a cross-sectional study and the sample was held for convenience with 30 adult subjects, 15 men and 15 women, where the GS was assessed by a dynamometer in three distinct stages: pre-immersion, immediately after immersion and a hour after immersion in ice. The immersion was done in a bucket with a capacity of 30 liters, with controlled temperature up to 5o C, being immersed in the upper limb to the elbow interarticular line for 20 seconds. Results: There was a highly significant changes between the pre and immediately plunge into ice after immersion in both groups, male and female (p < 0,01) and even after an hour, it was still observed significant differences in GS. Conclusion: immersion in ice for 20 seconds at a temperature of 5o C decreased significantly the GS.
