Abstract

The literature shows that subjects with epilepsy have difficulties per-forming activities in all or nearly all aspects of life. Searching for a better understanding of the problems of occupational performance in subjects with epilepsy, this research sought to evaluate and clas-sify these problems according to the ICF experienced by subjects with Epilepsy and to discuss the data gleaned from the literature. Thirty-four individuals were interviewed, where the main performance problems reported were: maintaining a job (d8451) with 18 complaints, voca-tional training (d825) with 15 complaints, and moving around in differ-ent locations (d460), also with 15 complaints. It was observed that the determining factors for these performance problems were easily classi-fied according to the ICF, and their limitations to activities and restric-tions to participation were in accord with the biopsychosocial model of health given by the classification where, apart from deficiencies related to the body functions, the environmental and personal factors also in-terfere with the lives of these individuals.
