an interpretative proposal of the Brazilian subjectivity from “Dialectic of malandragem”, by Antonio Candido

Abstract

Starting from an interpretation of “Dialectic of malandragem”, by Antonio Candido, it is possible to think the formation of Brazilian society. Therefore, the “structural reduction” method of society in the literary work and vice-versa is the central point through which is possible to reflect on the possibility of subjective formation. That is true especially in the case of a step forward towards Machado de Assis’s work. In that context, the “malandragem” gains in interpretative quality: it is not anymore about the contingency of individual traffic between the spheres of order and disorder, but the social necessity of this constant forth and coming.
