Abstract

The use of Kuntscher medullary nailing with exposure of femur fracture field was studied in 9 dogs. From the fracture site, a guide pin was driven upward into the trochanteric region. Over the guide pin, the Kuntscher nail was driven downward from the trochanteric fossa. After the normal bony consolidation, the nail was removed. A solid fixation was provided controlling rotation as well as axial displacement by the “V” shaped cross section of the medullary nail.
