Abstract

This article presents part of the discussion I made in my monograph completion of course, defended in November 2008, at the State University of Ponta Grossa. Indeed , looked at the socio-cultural responses enrolled in combating the AIDS epidemic in Brazil. Specifically, I sought to reflect on the criticism produced by clerics of the Catholic Church to the campaigns and prevention programs undertaken by the Federal Government from the years 1993 to 2007 to stem the progress of the epidemic in the youth segment of the population. Here I present the AIDS prevention campaigns targeting young people, followed by three criticisms listed by Catholics: the theologian Felipe Aquino, Cardinal and Bishop Rafael Llano Cifuentes Eduardo Benes, ending with my analysis of the fuss, in light of the concept of representation.
