Abstract

The paper investigates the incorporation, in the field of modern art, of fragmentary elements from the newspaper (as an ordinary, everyday material) in works of art. For this, the text follows several inflection points in the trajectory of incorporation of visual, textual or communicative structures originated in the mass media by brazilian modern artists, between the 1950s and 1970s. Starting with the visual reform of the Jornal do Brasil (Journal of Brazil), lead by a team related to the neoconcret movement (between 1956 and 1959), the text will indicate, right after, the Nova Figuração (New Realism) movement as a critical inflection, marked by the trauma of April 1, 1964, by analyzing a series of works produced between 1964 and 1972.
