A influência da medicina oriental na Europa moderna: o caso do bálsamo de Gileade

Este artigo pretende analisar a influência de uma substância de origem oriental na medicina europeia moderna. O bálsamo de Gileade ou bálsamo de Meca, como ficou conhecido, foi descrito por autores leigos e médicos, e demonstra as trocas que ocorriam entre cristãos e muçulmanos no âmbito da medicina. Atrelado a tal discussão, busca-se verificar se o fato de o bálsamo ser cultivado em regiões de domínio islâmico durante esse período gerava críticas por parte dos europeus.
