Abstract

This article analyses specific inflation for income groups (low-income, medium class and upper class) and regions (Northeast and Center-South) after monetary stability, from 1995 to 2008. We found that low-income inflation was lower than average mainly due to food prices, which were contained by exchange rate appreciation and favorable crops in the first years of the Plano Real. Taking into account the favorable differences in relative prices we found that the real income of the low-income would have grown even more.
