Abstract

Metrópolis, directed by Fritz Lang, is considered with Nosferatu, byMurnau, one of the most emblematic movies of German cinematography and alsoone of the most known titles of silent movies. Released in 1927, with a stronginfluence of expressionist aesthetic, Lang´s movie makes possible to aproachgender roles through the femininity and technology relation. Based on CharlesSanders Peirce Semiotics we developed a discussion about female representationsat Metropolis having in mind that the percian concept of semiosis makes possibleto look at female representations (sign system) towards social and historicalcontext of its production (dynamic object), at the same time it makes possible toask what changes this feminine produces into the narrative.
