This paper discusses the relationship between cinema and history bymeans of analysis of two Brazilian films produced in different political, socialand cultural historic moments of this country, “Xica da Silva” (1976) and“Eternamente Pagu”(1989). Presuming that all films are historical documents that reflect the issues of the period in which they were made, the aim was toclarify the influences of the historical phenomena lived by Brazilian societyduring the 70’s and 80’s of the last century based on the characteristics of thesetwo cinema works. Intending to analyze the films as documents, it was establisheda dialogue with the historian and social scientists’ work that tried to understandhow these films reflected some aspects of predominant culture of Brazil in themoment they were produced.Downloads
