Recent Internal Migrations in Peru: Quantitative Analysisof Spatial and Socio-Demographic Aspects

Abstract

Within  theframework  of  the  COVID-19  pandemic,  there  was  an  exodus  in  Lima, capital of Peru. This fact, addressed in a recently published article, encouraged us to investigate some issues regarding internal migration in the country.The objective of this opportunityis to characterize the migrations that have occurred in  recent  years, in a  context of changes at the global,  national  and  local  levels.  It  is  intended  to  identify  and  measure  some  conditions  of migratory  flows,  trying,  at  the  same  time,  to  point  out  theircorrelation  with  aspects  of  the migratory process and regional development.The indicators found suggest economic growth at the national level, which does not reach all regions.  Information  from  departments  corresponding  to  selected  regions  will  be  analyzed, based on data from the period 2007-2019 produced by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics-INEI. The article offers some conclusion clues that serve for later articles.
