Abstract

The name Bixiga is related to a traditional area inside the Bela Vista District. The space reflects today a symbolic identity; it is a culturally territory marked by feasts, rituals, shows, gastronomy, and several ways of living. It is very peculiar, preserving colored façades from an ancient scenario. It attracts visitors, tourists, students and researchers. Multiple looks reveal the meaning of peculiarities and originality of a multicultural territory installed within the central region of the São Paulo City. Due to their own history, residents and goers elect references for their practices. The way to maintain such practices are past lessons coming from a generation to another. So, such practices become marks of the neighborhood. Bixiga has increasingly becoming a signalized, musical and “talking” district by means of relationships set between distinct groups with the soul of the neighborhood. It is worthy to emphasize the social living ability to pass beyond time to get a new meaning and to keep their strong relationships with the context.
